The Seventy Weeks

  The 69 weeks ended with the Messiah's appearance in 27 CE counting from the seventh year of Artaxerxes, which was 458 to 457 BCE (Tishri to Tishri). The text does not state that he was killed in the middle of the 70th week. It simply states that he was cut off some time "after" the 69 weeks. The seventy weeks were split into three parts (7+62 and 1). The first two parts run concurrently to form 69 weeks, or 483 years. This is the most famous part of the prophecy which points to the arrival of the Messiah. The final 1 week is separate from the 69 weeks. This is deliberate. There is a gap. Many, such as the Watchtower Society, believe that there is no gap and the 70 weeks run for 490 years straight. This is false.    The seventy weeks are described in Daniel 9:24-27. All verses therein apply to the Seventy Weeks. However, some claim that the events described in part of verse 26 and verse 27 do not apply to the seventy weeks. They are wrong.
